The head of the Turkish Central Bank, Hafize Gaye Erkan, has asked President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to relieve her of her post. She explained this by a campaign organized against her.

“As the public knows, recently a large-scale campaign to damage my reputation has been organized against me. So that my family, and especially my sinless child, who is not yet one and a half years old, would not suffer even more from this process, I turned to Mr. President with a request to relieve me of the duties that I have performed with honor from the very first day,” – Ms. Gaye wrote on the social network X.

Probably, the head of the Central Bank by the campaign means the public’s reaction to her interview with the Hurriyet newspaper. In it, Ms. Gaye complained about the cost of renting in Istanbul, which she said was more expensive than in Manhattan. In this regard, the head of the Central Bank had to move in with his parents.

Hafize Gaye Erkan headed the Turkish Central Bank in the summer of 2023 and became the first woman to hold this post.
