The Kremlin does not rule out the role of speculative games on the ruble exchange rate – Kommersant

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov believes that, as a rule, there is always a significant proportion of “speculative games” in the appreciation of foreign currencies in Russia. In his opinion, this option cannot be ruled out in the current decline of the ruble.

During the press call, Mr. Peskov was asked to comment on the weakening of the Russian currency and the subsequent increase in the price of household appliances. “Indeed, we all see what fluctuations, indeed the exchange rate is growing, the ruble is falling. But let’s remember, we have seen this several times before – and there were bounces back. And we ourselves know very well that, as a rule, in such increases there is always a significant proportion of speculative games, which we cannot rule out even now,” Mr. Peskov replied.

The euro exchange rate today, July 6, rose above 102 rubles, the dollar – above 93 rubles. for the first time since March 2022. Head of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina does not see risks to financial stability. According to her opinionthe weakening is associated with a decrease in exports and an increase in imports.

As Kommersant found out earlier, manufacturers of household appliances and electronics have been raising prices for the second time since the beginning of the year against the backdrop of an increase in the euro and dollar rates. On average, retailers report a 10-15% increase in purchase price across a range of brands.
