The share of own brands in sales of retail chains in Russia rose to 20%

The average share of private labels (PL) in sales of Russian retailers increased by more than 5 percentage points, to 20% of revenue. This was reported in the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT).

In a conversation with RIA Novosti, the organization emphasized that the development of chains’ own brands has become one of the key retail trends in 2022. A survey of AKORT member chains showed a significant increase in demand for private label products in almost all product categories.

The share of private labels in the sales of non-food retailers, members of ACORT, increased by 8 percentage points compared to 2021, to 42%, in the DIY sector – by 2 percentage points, to 12% of turnover.

Each federal retail chain has, on average, 11 own brands. Last year, they launched more than 5,000 new products under their own brands, about 925 new products for each network.

The categories “dairy products and cheeses”, “frozen products”, “groceries”, “fresh fruits and vegetables” and “culinary” showed the greatest interest. Shares of private labels in them exceeded 22%. In non-food products, the largest demand was noted in the categories “household chemicals”, “home textiles”, “diapers and hygiene products” (40%).
