The trade turnover between Russia and Georgia in January and February of this year increased by 48% compared to the same period last year. This was reported to Kommersant by Badri Kvachadze, Head of the Department of Statistics of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investments of the National Statistics Service (NSS) under the Cabinet of Ministers of Georgia.

According to the NSS, in two months, in monetary terms, the trade volume of the two countries reached $467 million, including $128,245 million in exports and $338,824 million in imports. Georgia’s negative trade balance in trade with the Russian Federation was $210,579.2 million.

Russia came out on top among Georgia’s trading partners (ahead of Turkey – $387 million – in the first two months) with a 16.1% share in the foreign trade of the Caucasian country.

According to TASS, in the first two months of this year, Georgia exported to the Russian Federation more than 36,000 tons of ferroalloys worth more than $45 million, more than 8,000 tons of natural wines (more than $23 million), 978 cars (more than $13 million), more than 19 thousand tons of mineral and fresh waters (more than $10 million), more than 2 thousand tons of alcoholic beverages (about $9 million).

In turn, the Russian Federation in January-February delivered to the neighboring republic more than 149 thousand tons of oil and oil products (over $108 million). And also more than 264 thousand tons of oil gases and hydrocarbons (more than $68 million), more than 32 thousand tons of wheat and meslin (more than $10 million), more than 47 thousand tons of coal and solid fuel obtained from it (more than $8.2 million). ), more than 25 thousand tons of wheat or wheat-rye flour (more than $8 million).

According to the TASS agency, Georgia’s total foreign trade turnover in January-February this year reached more than $2.8 billion, which is 12.3% higher than in 2022. Including exports amounted to more than $914 million (an increase of 20.3% compared to the same period in 2022), and imports amounted to almost $2 billion (an increase of 9%).

The negative balance of Georgia’s foreign trade in the first month of this year exceeded $1 billion (36.9% of the total trade turnover).
