The Ministry of Reconstruction has started negotiations with Moldova and Romania regarding the creation of a “green corridor” between the checkpoints “Reni (Ukraine) – Giurgiulesti (Moldova) – Galats (Romania)” to speed up the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.

About this informs press service of the ministry.

The topic of launching the “green corridor” became a key topic in the negotiations with the participation of Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach, State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova Mircea Pascaluce and State Secretary of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania Ionel Skriostianu.

The Ministry of Reconstruction said that the proposal to implement the “green corridor” includes a number of measures for all three countries.

“First of all, we are talking about joint control between Ukraine and Moldova and coordinated control between Moldova and Romania. Thanks to this decision, we will be able to reduce the number of stops for trucks and, accordingly, speed up control. Globally, this decision will allow solving the issue of complex development of infrastructure on the Ukrainian-Moldovan-Romanian border,” explained Derkach.

These checkpoints are located next to each other and are strategic for goods moving by car to ports, particularly Galați, Romania.

A number of steps are needed to create a “green corridor”, in particular, the construction of the “Reni” crossing point. This will allow the representatives of the control authorities of Moldova to carry out all the necessary procedures when leaving Ukraine.

The plan for launching the “green corridor” also provides for the reconstruction of the Reni – Galats road and its expansion from 2 to 4 lanes and additional technical equipment of checkpoints. All these measures are possible with the support of the decision of all three parties.

Currently, the “Reni – Giurgiulesti” checkpoint allows about 50 trucks to pass through per day. Instead, it is one of the key road crossing points leading to Romanian ports.

“The key goal of the development of the infrastructure of this crossing point and the “green corridor” is to increase the actual throughput by at least 5 times,” the Ministry of Reconstruction summarized.

We remind you:

Verkhovna Rada on August 24 ratified amending the agreement between Ukraine and Moldova on the operation of railway transport. The approved changes will allow transit transportation on the Etulia (Moldova) – Reni (Ukraine) – Giurgiulesti (Moldova) section, without a three-day stop in Reni.
