The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) appealed to the Moscow Arbitration Court demanding the recovery of 36.2 billion rubles. from the Finnish shipyard Arctech Helsinki Shipyard OY. The essence of the claims is unknown.
According to card index Moscow Arbitration Court, the statement of claim was filed on February 16, it has not yet been accepted for consideration. The plaintiff is the United Shipbuilding Corporation, the defendant is Arctech Helsinki Shipyard OY, which USC owned until 2019.
USC became the owner of 100% of the shares of Arctech Helsinki Shipyard in 2014. The company built icebreakers for the Russian Ministry of Transport and Rosmorport, as well as ships for Sovcomflot. Due to European sanctions, foreign banks refused to service the Finnish shipyard, and in 2019 USC sold it to the cruise operator Algador Holdings Ltd, registered in Cyprus. The transaction amount was €35 million.
In 2023, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard changed hands again. It was the Canadian shipbuilding company Davie. Details of the transaction were not disclosed, but Davie specified that the acquisition of assets was made possible thanks to the company’s own funds and co-financing in the amount of about €150 million, including from the government of the Canadian province of Quebec for €77 million.
