Wildberries plans to develop fintech and may issue a bank card

Founder and CEO of the Wildberries marketplace Tatyana Bakalchuk said that the company plans to develop fintech and does not exclude the possibility of issuing its own bank card.
“We believe that plastic as such is an outdated story. Why do you need cards when you have bills? But, as experience shows, plastic is still needed. Perhaps we will also think in this direction… We are involved in Fintech and will be involved even more,” said “RIA News” Mrs. Bakalchuk.
The timing of the issue of the bank card has not been specified. According to Tatyana Bakalchuk, to develop the fintech area, the marketplace intends to actively attract personnel from the banking sector. The CEO of Wildberries emphasized that in order to implement banking solutions, the company must comply with all regulatory requirements, which requires the participation of specialized specialists.
Previously Wildberries registered a subsidiary microcredit company VB Finance LLC, which will specialize in consumer loans, industrial loans, loans secured by real estate, loans for the purchase of houses.
In December 2023, analysts for the first time recorded a slowdown in the growth rate of sellers on marketplaces. From January to November 2023, the number of sellers increased by only 35%, while last year during the same period it increased by 134%. This is explained by the fact that online retailers began to increase commissions for counterparties and reduce their support for marketing and logistics.
