Food, wellness, sustainability and personalized services increasingly influence the choice of tourist destination by travelers from all over the world. This was revealed by a study on this year’s travel trends conducted by Barceló Hotel Group involving a sample of over 8,700 people spread across 20 different countries. In particular, 76% of respondents declared that they give a lot of importance to factors such as culinary tradition of the destination andgastronomic offer of the hotel. As for the wellness, 52% of the sample stated that rest and self-care will be the main objectives of their holidays. The absolute protagonists, therefore, are the accommodation facilities equipped with spa, ‘en plein air’ activities and yoga courses.
The importance of the factor is growing sustainability: more than half of those interviewed consider the environmental impact of their decision when making their choice. Furthermore, 26% of the sample wants to be an active part of regenerative tourism by adhering to the actions planned by the hotel such as, for example, recycling clothes or collecting waste on the beach, while 25% positively evaluates the existence of systems capable of reduce waste of energy and water. 22%, in turn, consider the reduction of plastic use and the ‘zero waste’ plan to be fundamental.
In search of emotions, 79% of the sample is interested in living out-of-the-ordinary experiences: it doesn’t matter whether they are naturalistic or cultural as long as they are personalized. In fact, 39% of those interviewed expect to live experiences in line with their lifestyle and 56% intend to further enrich them with complementary services. Finally, noteworthy is the evident and progressive deseasonalization of tourism: almost 40% of the sample prefers to take several short stays throughout the year rather than concentrating their holidays in the high season.
