7 German lightning bolts to the electric market

Opel Türkiye announced its 2023 evaluation and 2024 expectations at the press conference it held last week. Opel Turkey General Manager Yiğit Yantaç, who got behind the wheel of the brand and met with the automotive press for the first time, emphasized that the market will not fall below 1 million this year and said that they will sell 70 thousand units.

AWARD CAME WHEN REACHING THE TOP 3 IN THE WORLD

Stating that they achieved a great global success with over 73 thousand sales last year and became one of the top 3 in the Opel world, Yantaç said, “Last year, 11 percent of Opel’s total sales globally were realized in Turkey. This means that one in every 9 vehicles sold in the world was sold in Turkey last year. This success provided us with the opportunity to promote Frontera, a model that means a lot to the brand, in Turkey. “Türkiye will be among the top 3 in the world in terms of sales from now on,” he said.

IT AIMS TO SELL AT LEAST 10 THOUSAND ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Stating that the dynamics of the Turkish automotive market indicate that it will not fall below million again, Opel Turkey General Manager said, “As Opel Turkey, we will have sales of around 70 thousand or more. We plan to reach a market share of over 7 percent. Even though we rank sixth in electric vehicles as a brand in 2023, we want to be in the top 5 in 2024. This year, for the first time, a fully electric version of each model will be offered. Our electric vehicle market expectation is around 100-120 thousand units. As Opel, we will realize 15 percent of our total sales from electric vehicles. The number of electric models will increase to 7. We currently have three models available. “I can say that it will be the fourth electric Frontera,” he said.

HALF OF THE ELECTRICS ARE OPEL BRAND

Stating that they achieved a 44.1 percent share in the electric Corsa, one of the B segment players, with sales of 1,777 units, Yiğit Yantaç continued his words as follows: “This means that one in every two vehicles in the segment is an electric Corsa. In our Mokka model, we achieved a segment share of 65.1 percent with sales of 1,757 units. In other words, one of every 2 electric vehicles sold in B-SUV was Mokka electric. This is an indicator of success for us. So, if you ask what the 3,500 units obtained here in total mean in the B segment, we have a segment share of over 45 percent and we want to maintain this segment share and develop it further. We are in a leading position. “One in every 2 vehicles sold in the electric B segment is Opel branded.”

THERE IS A TURKISH BREEZE IN OPEL PRODUCTION

Opel Turkey General Manager Yiğit Yantaç said that with Turkey being among the top 3 in global sales, it also has a say in production and that its demands are met in new models. “There is a lot of Turkish touch in Opel models. We actually share these under each product feature. However, the model feature I will share is a vehicle that has not yet been announced when it will arrive and which model it will be. Therefore, if I share it, it would not be right to share the decision that was taken under our influence. “But if you ask if there is a ‘Turkish breeze’ in the models, there is a clear one,” he said.
