Adaptation letter to Erdoğan from Kazım Ergün, President of the Pensioners’ Association

Turkish Pensioners Association (TÜED) Chairman Kazım Ergün, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’In the letter he sent to A.Ş., he stated that the change in the methods of calculating pensions in some periods caused inequality in terms of the amount of pensions between workers and Bağ-Kur retirees who retired on different dates, and used the following statements:

• Paying the same amount of premiums in the same period of their working life and retiring at the same age; However, since the retirement dates are different from each other, the issue of equalization of the pensions that are not the same due to the changes in the monthly calculation methods, that is, the issue of adjustment is still awaiting a solution.
• With the contributions of your personal, our retirees were adjusted before 2000 and the injustice among them was corrected with your appreciation. For this, as our retired community, we expressed our gratitude to you.
• At the point reached today, the same is true for our retirees after 2000. As our Constitutional Court has stated, a solution can only be achieved through an adjustment law to be enacted by the parliament.

“A COMMON SYSTEM SHOULD ADOPT”

In his letter, Ergün also included technical information about the three periods taken into account in the calculation of pensions, and made the following demands:

• The implementation of the two mixed systems before the Law No. 5510 did not cause a great inequality in the calculation of the pensions, and a system that increased the pension as the working period lengthened was implemented. The system introduced by Law No. 5510 has turned into an application that reduces the pension as the working period gets longer.
• A common system should be adopted in updating the earnings and in pensioning rates in order to change this practice and to ensure equality in the pensions of those in the same situation. This proposal should also be seen as an adaptation of the 2000s.
• The differences in pensions should be ended by determining the average premium earnings and equal number of premium payment days. In this regard, pensions should be recalculated according to equal rules.
