Artificial intelligence danger in England: Approximately 8 million people may lose their jobs

According to the analysis of the London-based think tank Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), if the British government does not take the necessary measures, there may be large-scale employment losses in the country due to artificial intelligence.

While it is estimated that 11 percent of the tasks performed by employees in the country are exposed to the first wave of productive artificial intelligence, positions currently most affected by artificial intelligence include database management, secretarial, customer service and administrative jobs, which include organizational and strategic tasks.

It is predicted that this rate may increase to 59 percent in the second wave, when companies will integrate existing artificial intelligence technologies into their processes more and more deeply.

Since women are more likely to work in such positions, there is a risk that female employment will be among those most affected as AI is further integrated into business processes.

According to the more optimistic scenario, 4.4 million jobs in the country could disappear but an annual gain of £144 billion, corresponding to 6.3 percent of GDP, could be achieved.

In the best-case scenario, all jobs at risk could be retrofitted to adapt to AI rather than replaced, resulting in a 13 percent economic increase in GDP without causing job losses. This rate corresponds to 306 billion pounds annually.

The strategy in question needs to include green jobs and support for these positions, fiscal policy measures such as tax incentives or subsidies, and legislative changes.
