Call from the African Union to foreign countries: Do not interfere in our internal affairs

In his written statement, AU Commission President Musa Faki Muhammed asked the leaders of the DRC and Rwanda to continue the dialogue within the framework of the process initiated in Angola and Kenya.

Emphasizing that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states in the region must be protected and the life safety of civilians must be ensured, Muhammed said that there is no military solution to the problems and conflicts in Africa.

Noting that he was deeply concerned about the tension, Mohammed called on all foreign countries to completely avoid interfering in the internal affairs of Africa, especially the countries in the Great Lakes Region.

The east of the DRC, where the border with Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi is located, has been the scene of attacks and conflicts by armed groups trying to gain control of mines such as gold and cobalt for more than 20 years.

Many rebel organizations operate in the region, especially the Democratic Alliance Forces (ADF) and the 23 March Movement (M23).

In the increasing attacks of M23 members trying to capture Goma, the capital of the North-Kivu province of the DRC, in the last month, many civilians and soldiers lost their lives and thousands of people were displaced.

The DRC is on the brink of war with Rwanda, which allegedly supports the M23 rebel group.

While DRC President Felix Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of supporting M23, Rwandan President Paul Kagame denied the allegations and said that the DRC President avoided responsibility by blaming Rwanda.
