Fish sales decreased with Ramadan

There continues to be an abundance of fish in the Black Sea before the hunting season, which will end on April 15.
Fishermen who set out to sea in Sinop, one of Turkey’s important fishing cities, return to the port with their nets full. Fish such as whiting, horse mackerel, toric, turbot and shad caught by fishermen are offered for sale at stalls in the city.
Fish, sold at prices starting from 40 lira per kilogram, do not receive the expected interest due to the decrease in consumption due to the month of Ramadan.
Sinop Central Fisheries Cooperative President Namık Ünlü said that the hunting season, which will end in 21 days, was productive for fishermen.
Emphasizing that fish other than anchovy and bonito are still being caught, Ünlü said, “We are leaving behind a productive season. We had a good hunting season, especially anchovy. Now, of course, it is Ramadan. Even though there is fish, there is a decrease in sales.” he said.
Fisherman İbrahim Gündoğdu stated that citizens are not in demand for fish during Ramadan and said, “Currently, many types of fish are available on our stalls. Even turik fish is available. But due to Ramadan, there is a decrease of about 50 percent in our sales. This will continue until the Eid.” said.
