Government is strict regarding products being sold in the name of health drinks, issued advisory

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Many health drinks like Bournvita, which claim to increase the growth of children, are available in the market and on e-commerce websites. But, do you know whether such health drinks are really healthy for your children or not? Now, the Indian government has taken strict action against e-commerce companies for selling beverages in the name of health drinks.

Actually, now all the drinks like Bournvita in the market will not be sold in the name of health drinks on e-commerce sites. The Industry Ministry has issued an advisory to all e-commerce companies on health drinks. It states that Bournvita and other beverages should not be included in the health drinks category.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has asked all e-commerce companies to remove all beverages, including Bournvita, from the ‘health drinks category’ from their websites. The advisory states that it has come to the notice of the department that some beverages, including Bournvita, have been classified as ‘health drinks’ on e-commerce sites and platforms.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) after its investigation found that there is no definition of ‘health drinks’ under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Keeping this in mind, e-commerce companies and websites are advised to remove beverages including Bournvita from the ‘Health Drinks’ category from their platforms.

It is known that NCPCR had written a letter calling all health drinks and beverages like Bournvita as harmful for the health of children. After the investigation report of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights came, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has written a letter and issued an advisory.
