ISIS ‘security chief’ gets Dutch residence permit

The fact that Al S., codenamed “Abu Khaled al – Amni”, whose identity was known by the international media in 2018, was granted a residence permit by the Netherlands in 2019, however, created controversy.
It has been announced that a 37-year-old man, who is said to have played an important role in the war in Syria, within the Al Nusra Front and ISIS, was captured in the raid carried out by the Dutch police on a house in Arkel on Tuesday.
The man, who appeared before the investigating judge in The Hague on Friday, turned out to be Ayham Al S., IS’s “security guard” in Yarmouk, south of Damascus.
According to the Dutch prosecutor’s office, Al S., as head of security at ISIS, was one of the people who set policies and was therefore behind the effective commission of war crimes.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Al S. served actively within the Al Nusra Front before 2013 and was involved in numerous crimes.
It was determined that Ayham Al S., who was accused by the prosecutor’s office of membership of a terrorist organization, espionage, kidnapping and murder and war crimes, applied for asylum in the Netherlands in 2019 and received a residence permit in 2020.
HIS IDENTITY AND POSITION KNOWN TO THE NETHERLANDS MEDIA
According to Dutch media, the identity of Ayham Al S. and his position within ISIS were known at the time he applied for asylum.
There were reports in the international media that ISIS was a security emir and that he was known in the organization by the code name Abu Khaled al – Amni.
In fact, it was reported in the media that he was among the participants in the negotiations with the Syrian regime on the withdrawal of ISIS from Yarmouk in 2018.
Despite all this being known, the Dutch granting of residence permit to Ayham Al S. caused controversy in the media and the public.
The Dutch press is questioning why the asylum application filed by a person on the agenda of the international media since 2018 has not been adequately examined.
However, the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) remains silent in the face of questions. The IND administration told the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant that they “cannot answer questions about individual cases”.
Geert Wilders, leader of the far-right Freedom Party (PVV), blamed the government for granting Al S. a residence permit.
“It could have caused death and destruction here, too,” Wilders said. I can’t believe that terrorist came to our country and wandered around for 4 years. “We are run by amateurs,” he said.
According to Dutch media, the arrest of Al S. is not the first case in the country.
The former boyfriend of Dutch journalist Ans Boersma, who was previously deported from Turkey, Aziz A., the director of the Al Nusra Front in Syria, was detained.
Aziz A, who was granted a residence permit by the Netherlands, was sentenced to 15 years and 9 months in prison in 2021 for his membership in a terrorist organization.
