Minimum wage message from the Palace… Sacrifice is left to the citizens!

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz answered journalists’ questions at the Anatolian Publishers Association.

Yılmaz stated that the minimum wage increase this year was above inflation and that serious measures were taken to protect the minimum wage in real terms.

Explaining that in addition to the increases, they took a historic step last year and introduced tax exemption on all wages up to the minimum wage, Yılmaz stated that the negotiation process for the new minimum wage was carried out in a tripartite manner.

WELFARE EXPECTATIONS OF WORKERS

Cevdet Yılmaz noted the following:

“So, of course, it is not enough for the public to share its perspective on this issue. There are public, employee and employer sides of the issue. All conditions are determined through a mechanism we call social dialogue. I do not find it appropriate to comment before the social dialogue mechanisms work. Negotiations will begin, the social dialogue mechanism will work in December “Of course, our workers will have welfare expectations, and our businesses will have expectations of maintaining their competitiveness and employment. I think the public sector will also observe this balance. Therefore, it would be more accurate to comment after seeing the functioning of this triple mechanism, the dialogue mechanism.”

HE ASKED FOR SOCIAL SACRIFICE FOR INFLATION

Cevdet Yılmaz stated that the fight against inflation also requires social sacrifice and said, “We may experience some difficulties in the short term, but in the medium-long term we will increase our welfare in a healthier way. This is the essence of the matter.”

Explaining that their aim is to ensure permanent prosperity, to take steps towards this goal and to strengthen it, Yılmaz said, “This actually puts a responsibility on everyone. It also puts it on us as politicians.”

“PENSIONERS PUT PRESSURE ON SSI”

Stating that 2 million people have retired after the regulation regarding retirement age, and there are 3 million more to come, Yılmaz said, “We are faced with such a burden. This also has repercussions for the future. This has really put a significant pressure on our social security system. This “We have to manage the situation as best we can within the means of our budget,” he said.

Stating that they will have a supportive approach to all segments by pushing the budget possibilities to the fullest, Yılmaz said, “While doing this, we must not forget that Turkey is currently facing a great earthquake burden and is also faced with the responsibility of reducing inflation.”
