In the year in which it consolidates itself as a large company, having surpassed the BRL 300 million revenue barrier in 2022, Moinho Vacaria closes a three-year cycle of investments that represent an industrial transformation in its 190,000-meter plant squares, in the industrial district of Vacaria. By the end of 2023, BRL 16.7 million will be invested mainly in the process of automating the shipment and loading of the mill.

“We are investing in the robotization of this operation, with mechanical arms, automated palletizing and mixing. All equipment is manufactured in Brazil”, explains the administrator of Moinho Vacaria, Marta Accorsi.

According to her, the goal, with the end of the investment, is to increase by up to 40% the earnings of the company, which today is the sixth largest mill in Rio Grande do Sul in the production of flour and the largest in the country in terms of storage and processing of wheat. The company directly employs 260 employees, and the operation also has 110 indirect workers.

duplicate storage

In early 2021, Moinho Vacaria began this expansion, with the acquisition, in the previous year, of the grain reception, storage and processing unit that belonged to Hercosul. Since then, and until the end of this year, R$ 44 million will be invested, ranging from doubling the storage capacity of the silos to the creation of a new specialty bread factory and the automation of processes at the industrial unit.

“Today, we have a capacity to process 500 tons per day of wheat and, starting next month, when we will finalize the project to duplicate the storage and processing of wheat, we will store up to 100 thousand tons”, says the administrator.

In all, since last year, the company has invested R$ 18 million in doubling the storage and processing capacity of wheat. Part of this amount – R$ 4 million – is invested this year, in the finalization of this project, which is considered fundamental to differentiate Moinho Vacaria in the market.

Today, the company maintains in the same area the receipt, storage, processing and production of flour from the wheat that is received in Vacaria. And the origin of this raw material, guarantees Marta, is 100% from Rio Grande do Sul.

“Gaucho wheat is distinguished by its quality. We have a portfolio of 500 producers, in addition to partnerships with cooperatives and cereal producers, not only in receiving this production, especially from our region from Vacaria to Passo Fundo, but also in relation to the storage of grains , which is a major obstacle today for Brazilian agriculture. We have this availability and it has made a difference”, evaluates Marta Accorsi.

differentiated baking

In March of this year, the company was approved by Fundopem for tax benefits for R$ 15.2 million defined in the factory modernization project. Part of the resource was already applied in 2022, with the creation of another of Moinho Vacaria’s differentials.

R$ 2.5 million were invested in the creation of an artisan bread factory with natural and differentiated fermentation. And the result is the entry of the company into a new niche. Today, these breads, which are distributed already baked and frozen, can be found in the bakeries of the Asun and Viezer chains, in stalls 43 and do Honês, in the Public Market of Porto Alegre, in addition to bakeries in Santa Catarina.

“It was a line designed around a market need. It is increasingly difficult to find qualified personnel with the necessary agility to produce these special lines in bakeries. We deliver the product already baked, ready”, explains the administrator.
The goal, according to her, is for products from this bakery, which also includes croissants, medialunas, ciabattas and cookies, to reach 15% of Moinho Vacaria’s revenues. A volume that should be reinforced in the coming months, when the flour for these mixtures will be sold in São Paulo.

It is precisely in São Paulo, and throughout the Southeast region, the main consumer market of the company from Serra Gaúcha. Up to 80% of the product processed in Vacaria is destined for that region. It is no coincidence that the company has two distribution centers in the metropolitan region of São Paulo and in Ribeirão Preto.

And it is to maintain its standard of competitiveness in flours that the company disburses this year the R$ 12.7 million in the modernization of shipping and loading. According to Marta Accorsi, the result will be time gain and cost reduction in the operation.
