President of ZUS prof. Gertruda Uścińska told PAP that the first childcare benefits in the amount of PLN 800 have already been paid to bank accounts and went to parents.
“Due to the fact that the first scheduled payment date falls on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 (a day off for civil service employees – PAP), the transfers were made on Friday, December 29, 2023,” she noted.
The head of ZUS informed that further transfers will be made on January 3 and 4.
According to government data, in 2024, 6 million 668 thousand people will be entitled to the benefit. kids.
The cost of introducing the changes will result in an increase in state budget expenditure by PLN 24 billion in 2024, with a decrease in expenditure in the following years due to the decreasing population of children aged 0-17, which results from the decreasing number of births and the entry into adulthood of much larger age groups.
The “Family 500 plus” program has been operating since April 2016. The benefit is available from the child’s birth until the child turns 18. Both children living in families and in foster care are entitled to it.
The replacement of the 500 plus benefit with a new rate of PLN 800 was announced in May 2023 by PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński. In July, the Sejm passed an amendment to the act on this matter, which was signed by President Andrzej Duda in August. (PAP)
