On the way to energy independence: modern wind power plants will be built in Ukraine

During the unfolding of a full-scale war and the Russian attack on power plants, hydroelectric plants and substations on the territory of Ukraine, the state still does everything possible to provide citizens with comfort and safety, using renewable energy sources. In particular, the country is currently planning to install new high-altitude wind turbines.
The construction of wind power plants will help not only to provide citizens with safe energy, but also to eliminate the need for European countries to purchase Russian gas.
Currently, Ukraine is going to finance alternative energy in order to soon get rid of dependence on fossil fuels, which Russia uses for blackmail.
The development of alternative energy in Ukraine shows involvement in the Energy Strategy until 2050. Installation of wind farms will help restore the sector, strengthen the energy security of both our country and the European continent.
Advantages of wind energy
Since there are no harmful emissions during operation, and unlike oil, gas or coal, wind energy is inexhaustible, its main advantages are safety and environmental friendliness.
Appropriate systems are installed in windy areas: for example, in Ukraine, such a place is the Carpathians. It is planned to install wind turbines with a capacity of more than 500 MW, developed by the only national manufacturer of multi-megawatt class wind power plants, “Friendly Wind Technology” LLC.
In January 2024, the company installed the first windmill on the border of Zakarpattia and Lviv regions, and now it is going to install up to 30 more, with a capacity of 150 MW, on 18 hectares of the Runa valley.
Experience from foreign countries
The experience of foreign countries shows the successful implementation of projects for the installation of wind power plants in mountainous regions. In 2017 The European Commission announced about the launch of the Handalm wind farm in Austria.
This wind farm was located at an altitude of 1,800 meters and consisted of 13 wind turbines with a capacity of about 76 million MWh per year.
According to the EC, this project played an important role in the European Union’s climate change strategy defined by the Paris Agreement.
According to CGTN informationin early 2024, the world’s highest wind farm began generating electricity in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region at an altitude of 4,650 meters above sea level on an area of 140 square kilometers.
It provides energy to 230,000 residents of the city of Nagku, which is considered one of the coldest places in the country with temperatures that can drop to -40°C.
Note that Sweden too obliged to refuse from the use of fossil fuels and switch to 100% renewable energy sources by 2040.
In this country, the largest wind park in Europe, Markbygden, has already been built, which covers an area of 450 square kilometers. By 2025, the park is planned to expand to 1,101 wind turbines.
The total planned capacity of the wind park is more than 4 GW, which is more than the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant.
Both abroad and in Ukraine, citizens will receive a number of benefits from the implementation of the project. For example, new jobs are created, shares of revenues from the sale of electricity and additional taxes go to local budgets, and a clean environment is provided.
