Russian oligarchs Mikhail Fridman and Pyotr Aven, who managed to partially escape the sanctions of Great Britain under the pretext of needing money for “basic needs” – drivers, cooks and maids, now found themselves under the sanctions of the United States of America.

American sanctions were also introduced against another shareholder of “Alfa Group” – Oleksiy Kuzmichev.
In addition, the US Treasury introduced sanctions against Herman Khan – Friedman’s partner and co-owner of the investment group LetterOne Holdings (L1). In 2022, Bloomberg reported that Khan had returned to Russia from Britain, where he had lived for almost 10 years, due to sanctions.
The US Treasury Department also reports that US sanctions have been imposed against the Russian Chamber of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).

They tried to get sanctions lifted in Europe. AND they succeeded in this in Great Britainwhere the authorities issued to sanctioned Russian oligarchs at least 82 licenses “for personal expenses” – up to $1 million per year, which Russians spend on “basic needs” – drivers, cooks and maids.
Thus, the co-founder of “Alfa Group” Mykhailo Fridman, who has been under British sanctions since spring 2022, received funds to support staff, cooks and drivers. For 10 months, the British authorities allowed Friedman to spend 300,000 pounds (about $400,000) and additionally allocated a monthly allowance of 7,000 pounds for “family needs.”
Friedman’s partner Peter Aven was allowed by the authorities to spend more than 1 million pounds. In particular, a monthly allowance of 60,000 pounds was allocated. Of these, 45,000 pounds were transferred to the security company of Aven financial manager Steven Gaither. By the way, the British authorities are investigating the latter in the case of helping Aven to circumvent sanctions.
At the same time, law enforcement officials in Great Britain were dissatisfied with such humanity of the authorities, and said that this approach undermines the country’s sanctions policy.
