Shopping Mall Turnover Index increased by 99.6 percent in 2023

The 2023 results of the Shopping Mall Turnover Index, created jointly by the Shopping Centers and Investors Association and Akademetre Research, have been announced.
According to the data, the shopping center square meter turnover increased by 99.6 percent in nominal value (not separated from inflation) in 2023 compared to the previous year. Based on the 2010 basis, the index reached 1890 points in 2023.
When the data in terms of square meter efficiency is examined, the efficiency index of Istanbul Shopping Malls was 2030 due to the influence of foreign tourists coming to Istanbul, while this figure was 1772 for Anatolian Shopping Malls.
In the same period, while the total turnover per square meter increased to 89 thousand 432 lira, this figure increased by 85.6 percent to 110.6 thousand lira in Istanbul Shopping Malls, and to 75.3 thousand lira by 115.3 percent increase in Anatolian Shopping Malls.
Last year, the visitor index per square meter reached 98 with the effect of the recovery. Experts stated that despite the rapid increase in shopping mall turnover, the number of visitors remained low compared to the 2010 level, as more shopping-oriented customers visited shopping malls in the said period.
The biggest increase was in the technology category
When the index was examined on a category basis last year, the highest increase was seen in the technology category with 114 percent.
The increase was determined as 98 percent in the food and beverage category, 92 percent in the clothing category, 91 percent in the hypermarket category and 90 percent in the shoe category.
