The green road map of the chemical industry is ready

The chemical industry, one of the locomotive areas of our country, will implement a comprehensive plan to adopt environmentally friendly principles from production to distribution. Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) announced the sustainability action plan report of the chemical industry. İKMİB President Adil Pelister stated that they presented a sustainability map that includes the change process for which the chemical industry should be prepared.

Pelister expressed his belief that chemistry, one of Turkey’s two largest exporting sectors, will maintain its muscle in global trade with the reforms it will make on the axis of sustainability. Pelister explained that with the report, the sector participated in 17 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, determined 8 priority targets and aimed to build sustainability on 4 basic pillars.

Mustafa Gültepe, President of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), emphasized that compliance with the Green Deal is of vital importance in order to maintain and increase Turkey’s power in the EU market. Stating that exports are the driving force of the country’s economy, he said, “We reached the 233 billion dollar limit in exports in 11 months. Hopefully, we will close this year with exports over 255 billion dollars.” TİM President Gültepe said that the chemical industry will be the leader with 33.5 billion dollars in 2022 and will approach 28 billion dollars in 11 months of this year, and underlined that compliance with the Green Deal is of vital importance, especially to protect and increase their share in the EU market.

İKMİB President Adil Pelister stated at the launch meeting of the report that it is time for change and transformation for the sustainability of the exports of the chemical industry. The report focused on the green economy and circular economy concepts that will affect global trade, and discussed the change and transformation expected in the sector within the framework of the EU Green Deal and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
