United Metal-İş Class Research Center (BİSAM) published the “Hunger and Poverty Line February 2024 Period Report”.

According to the report; The hunger line for a family of four exceeded 16 thousand liras and the poverty line exceeded 55 thousand liras. For a person living alone, the poverty line exceeded 25 thousand liras.

“THE COST OF HEALTHY NUTRITION TO THE FAMILY BUDGET EXCEEDED 8 THOUSAND LIRAS”

“The amount of calories that each family member should consume for a healthy diet varies. The monthly equivalent of the foods that an adult man should consume for a healthy and balanced diet is 2 thousand 385 liras. This value is 2 thousand 276 liras for an adult woman and 2 thousand 276 liras for a young person aged 15-18. thousand 471 is 1651 lira for a child between the ages of 4-6. The cost of a healthy diet to the total family budget has been determined as 8 thousand 782 lira. This amount is the compulsory expenditure that the family in question must make only for food. Education, health, housing Including expenses such as entertainment, heating and transportation, the amount a family needs to spend reaches 30 thousand 379 lira.

The amount of calories each family member needs to consume for a healthy diet varies. The monthly equivalent of the foods that an adult man should consume for a healthy and balanced diet is 2 thousand 66 lira. This value is 1953 liras for an adult woman, 2 thousand 129 liras for a young person aged 15-18, and 1405 liras for a child aged 4-6. The cost of a healthy diet to the total family budget was determined as 7 thousand 552 liras. This amount is the mandatory expenditure that the family in question must make only for food. Including expenses such as education, health, accommodation, entertainment, heating and transportation, the amount a family needs to spend reaches 26 thousand 123 lira.

According to TUIK (Turkish Statistical Institute) index figures according to expenditure groups, 2003 item prices, Istanbul Halk Ekmek, chain market current month internet prices and BİSAM Nutrition Pattern, the monthly expenditure amount a family of four should spend for a healthy and balanced diet in February For 2024, it is 16 thousand 100 lira. This spending amount is the minimum amount required for food only. According to the results of the calculation based on household consumption expenditures over the hunger line, the poverty line is 55 thousand 691 lira.

The kitchen expenses that a person living alone must make in order to have a healthy and balanced diet, as well as the expenses he must make in order to survive, such as accommodation, transportation, education, health, etc. The total amount of expenses must be at least 25 thousand 568 lira. Accordingly, the poverty line for a person living alone has been determined as 25 thousand 568 lira.”

DAILY EXPENDITURE REQUIREMENT 537 LIRA

In daily expenditures, the highest cost group in February 2024 was the milk and dairy products group, with a spending requirement of 170.72 lira. The minimum spending amount for the meat, chicken and fish group was 109.40 lira. The daily spending amount for vegetables and fruits reached 124.28 lira. It was stated that a daily expenditure of 33.38 lira was required for bread, and 30.80 lira for fat and oil. 10.69 lira was determined for eggs and 13.40 lira for sugar, honey, jam and molasses.

According to a narrower grouping, the share of milk and dairy products in expenditures had the highest share with 31.8 percent. The share of the meat, egg and legume group ranked second with 28 percent. The share of vegetables and fruits in expenditures is 23.2 percent; bread, pasta etc. The share for was determined as 8.8 percent. The share of other food expenditures in total was 8.2 percent.

INCREASE MORE THAN 3 THOUSAND LIRAS IN 1 MONTH

In BİSAM’s report for January 2024, the hunger limit for a family of four exceeded 15 thousand TL and the poverty line reached 51 thousand 998 TL. In Turkey, the daily amount needed by a family of four for a healthy and balanced diet exceeded 500 lira.

Accordingly, the poverty line of a family of four increased by 3 thousand 693 lira in 1 month.
