The ministry’s solution was once again cattle imports!

The General Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry published the import instructions and technical criteria regarding the import of fattening cattle for 2024.
Accordingly, a total of 600 thousand head of fattening cattle will be imported in three periods in 2024.
Actual import will be carried out by ESK according to the specified rules. The sales price of the fattening cattle to be imported will be determined by the Meat and Milk Institution.
MEAT AND MILK AGENCY AND RED MEAT PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION WILL IMPORT
Businesses with a capacity of 200 animals will apply to the Turkish Red Meat Producers Central Union, and the applications will be evaluated by the Meat and Milk Institution.
The permit list determined as a result of the evaluation will be sent to the General Directorate of Livestock at the end of each period.
QUOTA ON CATTLE IMPORTS
While enterprises with a livestock barn capacity of less than 200 heads will be given an import permit for 150 thousand head of fattening cattle, businesses with a livestock barn capacity of less than 200 heads will be given a maximum of 40 head of fattening cattle import permit during the year.
In case of any disease, compulsory slaughter or death in the “nationalized” animals after the import procedures are completed, all responsibility will belong to the breeder and no compensation will be paid.
The documents requested from enterprises applying for Cattle Import and the period to be determined will be published on the official website of ESK. The businesses that are allowed to be imported will be announced in the permit list published by the General Directorate of Livestock.
If breeders do not submit the documents requested by the Meat and Milk Institution and the General Directorate of Food and Control within the deadline or if their documents are not deemed appropriate, their fattening cattle permits will be deemed invalid.
There are 28 licensed countries from which Turkey imports live animals.
