Unemployment Insurance Fund grew by 21.3 billion lira in three months

The Unemployment Insurance Fund, which was established in 1999 to compensate involuntarily unemployed insured people for the loss of income they suffered, has continued to be the assurance of the unemployed since March 2002, when the first unemployment insurance payment was made.

The fund, which closed last year with 196 billion 950 million 756 thousand liras, continues to grow with 2 percent employer, 1 percent insured deductions and 1 percent state share income calculated on the monthly gross earnings of the insured person based on premium.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund grew by approximately 21.3 billion liras in the first three months of 2024, reaching assets of 218 billion 266 million liras as of the end of March.

10 million 618 thousand people were entitled to the allowance

From March 2002 to March 31, 2024, 19 million 496 thousand 914 people applied for unemployment benefits, while 10 million 618 thousand 255 people were entitled to receive benefits.

A total of 76 billion 727 million 576 thousand liras were paid to those who deserved the allowance.

In March this year, a total of 2 billion 475 million 388 thousand liras were paid to 397 thousand 801 people, including those whose payments continued from the previous period.

Earnings based on premium for the last 4 months are important

In calculating unemployment benefit, the insured’s earnings subject to premium for the last 4 months are taken into account.

The amount of allowance is calculated as 40 percent of the earnings of the last 4 months before leaving the job, but the calculated amount cannot exceed 80 percent of the minimum wage. A stamp duty deduction of 7.59 per thousand is made from this figure.

Accordingly, for a person who works for 4 months and becomes unemployed in 2024, the minimum unemployment benefit is 7 thousand 940 liras and the highest is 15 thousand 880 liras.

Payment is made according to the insurance period

Those who are unemployed must meet certain conditions in order to benefit from unemployment benefits.

The person must be unemployed due to his/her own will and fault, be subject to a service contract for the last 120 days before the termination of the service contract, pay unemployment insurance premiums for at least 600 days in the last 3 years before the termination of the service contract, and apply to İŞKUR within 30 days after the termination of the service contract. can benefit from this allowance.

In the last 3 years before the termination of the service contract, 180 days unemployment benefit is given to the insured unemployed people who have worked insured for 600 days and paid unemployment insurance premiums, 240 days unemployment benefit is given to the insured unemployed people who have worked 900 days insured and paid this premium, and 300 days unemployment benefit is given to the insured unemployed people who have worked 1080 days insured and paid premiums.
