Yıldırım, who also serves as TOBB Road Passenger Transportation Sector Council President, gave information about bus services.

Pointing out that there is activity in bus companies this week due to the elections to be held on March 31, Yıldırım said that many people changed cities in order to vote in the election and that there were mostly trips to Anatolia.

Yıldırım stated that some of those who went to vote in the election were able to combine their leave with the Eid al-Fitr holiday and said:

“As of the middle of next week, bus services will be busy during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Tickets for normal flights have been sold out. Additional buses have been organized due to the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has made a regulation on this issue. It has implemented a temporary regulation for the use of tourism vehicles to transport passengers. “The regulation will be valid throughout the Eid al-Fitr.”

Stating that there are currently an average of 11 thousand bus trips per day across the country, Yıldırım said, “Approximately 15 thousand buses will carry passengers per day with additional trips to be organized during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The additional services will be concentrated on the 3 days before and after the Eid al-Fitr. During this period, approximately 6.5 buses will be carried out. “We expect million people to travel by buses.” he said.

20 PERCENT INCREASE

Emphasizing that there will be congestion on the roads during the holiday, Yıldırım said that everyone in traffic, especially bus drivers, should be more careful.

Yıldırım stated that bus accidents occur from time to time and that these will decrease if drivers are prevented from hitting the road with tired, sleepless and poorly maintained vehicles.

Pointing out that citizens who will travel should also be careful to wear seat belts, Yıldırım reminded that this is a legal obligation.

Addressing the competition between bus companies, Yıldırım noted that there was an approximately 20 percent increase in bus ticket prices before the election and Eid al-Fitr.
