Social Security is preparing a battery of regulations for this year. Regulations for Spanish citizens abroad

One of the plans of the Immigration branch of the Government is encourage the return of Spaniards abroad, as elEconomista.es announced in March. The Migrations branch wants to develop, together with the Foreign Ministry, a regulation to develop the Statute of Spanish citizenship abroad – channeling the work through a specific general secretariat with the same name –, essentially valuing that the new norm reduces bureaucracy .

There are approximately 1.7 million people of working age (between 16 and 64 years old). The objective is to “develop and update the basic regulation of State action aimed at meeting the needs of Spaniards residing abroad and returnees, to adapt to the new world reality and the diversity of situations derived from the characteristics of each country of residence, with new management approaches”.

Saiz’s ministry, together with Foreign Affairs, plans “improvements in the regulatory framework regarding immigration and foreigners” in a royal decree. They want to “reduce the number of current permits, simplify documentation and procedures, strengthen the protection of the rights of migrants and unify the management of residence and work authorizations” and create a single migration agency.
