“Forbes”: Magic Johnson a billionaire – Nowy Dziennik
[ad_1]
Former NBA basketball star, the famous Magic Johnson, has become a billionaire – according to the latest ranking of the richest people in the world by Forbes magazine.
The 64-year-old is the fourth basketball player in NBA history whose fortune exceeded one billion dollars – after the legendary Michael Jordan, the tragically deceased Kobe Bryant (he died in a helicopter crash in January 2020) and LeBron James. The latter went down in history in May 2022 as the first player with a 1 and 9 zeros on his account.
Johnson’s income was estimated in the magazine’s latest report at $1.2 billion. This includes minority shares in professional sports clubs: Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA basketball league), Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB baseball league), Los Angeles FC (MLS football league) and Washington Commanders (NFL American football league) and chains: Starbucks , Burger King, 24 Hour Fitness and the EquiTrust insurance company.
Interestingly, in the NBA for almost 23 years (1979-1991 and 1996), Magic only earned… $40 million. He also received funds from sponsorship contracts, but they were not as high as those currently received by NBA stars.
Magic Johnson was a member of the legendary US team that won the Olympic gold medal in Barcelona in 1992 – the famous “Dream Team I”.
A year earlier, he withdrew from the sport after being diagnosed with HIV, but returned to the court. Johnson is a five-time champion with the LA Lakers (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987–1988). He was named the league’s most valuable player in the regular season three times (MVP – 1987, 1989 and 1990) and received the Finals MVP award the same number of times (1980, 1982 and 1987). He participated in the All-Star Game 12 times and was the MVP of this event twice (1990 and 1992). (PAP)
