How long does it take for Social Security to grant or deny the Minimum Living Income?

Currently, there are more than 1.7 million people who receive the Minimum Living Income, distributed in more than 575,000 homes, according to Social Security data for the month of March. The organization pays 125,000 more benefits than last year at this point, but many people can still benefit from this guaranteed income.

That is why it is not strange to see people who have requested the Minimum Living Income wait for the opinion of Social Security, in charge of receiving, managing and deciding on applications for this guaranteed income.

Social Security is obliged to respond to requests for the Minimum Living Income within a certain period that must not be missed to guarantee that the uncertainty about the possibility of this income does not take too long.

The Social Security website informs the citizen that “the maximum period to resolve their request is six months from the date of submission” of the Minimum Vital Income application.

If the response from Social Security does not arrive within the established period, the citizen must expect bad news, since it will be understood that the Minimum Living Income request has been denied due to the existence of administrative silence.

However, Social Security warns that, even after that time, sooner or later “it will expressly resolve the applications submitted.”

Amounts of the Minimum Living Income in 2024

It must be clear that the amount of the Minimum Living Income that each cohabitation unit has depends on its composition and the income of the unit (remember that the IMV is compatible with pensions, salaries…), so it is understood as the “difference between the amount of the guaranteed income and the set of all the income and income of the beneficiary or the members that make up that coexistence unit from the previous year”, as explained by the Minimum Living Income Law, which can be consulted at this link.
