Moderate satisfaction in businessmen before the drop in unemployment in Aragon

CEOE and CEPYME in Aragon have positively assessed the drop in unemployment in the Aragonese Community, although they warn of discontinuous permanent contracts.

This type of hiring makes both CEOE Aragón and CEPYME Aragón cautious with the registered unemployment data for the month of May in the Aragonese community, which leaves 964 fewer unemployed people, which is 1.73% less than the previous month. In year-on-year terms, there are 4,082 fewer people unemployed, with a decrease of 6.93%.

CEOE Aragón has positively valued these data as a whole, which also reflect a growth in membership, although they warn that there are negative counterpoints. Specifically, the business organization refers to the discontinuous fixed contracts. These represent 57.1% more this month than in May 2022, which means that 25,267 people are counted as employed by this type of contract, but who may not be currently working.

In this same line, CEPYME Aragón also pronounces itself, which also focuses on the fact that the people who have lost their jobs are not counted as unemployedbut as active, as well as people seeking employment with discontinuous permanent contracts that are not computed in unemployment either.

This business organization has also taken the opportunity to ask the future government to take into account SMEs and the self-employed, apart from betting on structural sectors so as not to depend on seasonality.

“The figures are still positive, but it is necessary to remember that May is a month that generally registers decreases, since it coincides with the beginning of the fruit harvest campaign; in fact, the main decreases have occurred in agriculture and the sector services. Although the drop in unemployment is always positive, we have to bet on structural sectors such as industry or construction. If we want a stable economy, we cannot depend on seasonality,” says María Jesús Lorente, president of CEPYME Aragón.

Lorente added that “we have just opened the door to a new political stage in which we hope that the resulting government will take into account the proposals of businessmen and, especially, do not forget that the Aragonese business fabric is made up of SMEs and the self-employed, who we are the ones who generate employment and settle population in the territory”.
