The farmers protests They face their seventeenth day this Thursday, February 22, after a few days marked by mobilizations throughout Spain. The Ministry of Agriculture and the main associations of the sector (COAG, UPA and Asaja) “make progress” in the negotiations to reach an agreement with which to capture the measures that the Government can take in the short and medium term, thereby trying to calm the protests of professionals in the field. However, the talks are proceeding slowly and with no signs that these same organizations – similar in representation to the unions in the workplace – will call off their own tractor rally on Madrid, scheduled for next Monday.
In addition, Unión de Uniones has also maintained its calendar of protests in Spain and the great drive to arrive in Madrid today to protest the serious situation that the Spanish countryside is going through in front of the doors of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Despite the current situation and the negotiations that are being carried out, any agreement will pivot on the basis of the package of actions that the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, presented to these organizations last week. Two of the measures are the voluntary use of the digital notebook to access aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and a reinforcement of the food chain law so that farmers do not sell their products at a loss. He also promised to defend before Brussels the simplification of its administrative procedures and to control more the imports from third countriessuch as Morocco, South Africa or several in Latin America.
On this DGT map you can consult in real time the road cuts for the farmers’ strike.
Since the first day of mobilization, February 6, the Ministry of the Interior has identified 8,886 people for possible sanctions, with the filing of just over 3,189 administrative complaints for roadblocks and tractor trailers in different parts of Spain. In addition, the number of detainees has now reached 44 people accumulated since the first day of the protest.
