The Executive held an Extraordinary Council of Ministers this Friday, coinciding with International Women’s Day to approve a battery of measures focused on strengthening women’s rights. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has taken forward the consideration of professional contingencies for economic purposes, temporary disability due to sexist violence. “Finally,” celebrated Minister Elma Saiz.

“Instead of being considered common contingencies such as the flu, these situations They will be assimilated to sick leave due to work accidents for Social Security purposes,” the minister explained. Thus, from the first day of the leave they will receive 75% of the regulatory base charged to the Administration and will not require a waiting period.

Another of the issues addressed by the Executive at this Friday’s meeting was the approval of the Trafficking Law which, among other things, will grant the victims residence and work permits while their situation is certified and will guarantee non-expulsion from the country if they find themselves in a situation of these characteristics.

In this sense, explained the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, the possibility opens up for victims to access the entire battery of aid and rights. “The complaint is disconnected from all the rights that people in a situation of trafficking can access,” among which are the Minimum Living Income (MIV) or priority access to public housing.

Sexual violence is equated to gender violence in aid

The protocol for action against workplace abuse and harassment within the General State Administration (AGE) is renewed, a measure that “gives coherence to the Government” that requests other areas to act in this regard. Likewise, the Ministry of Equality has moved forward to equate sexual violence with gender violence in terms of access to aid. In this way, victims of sexual violence will have the right to receive aid equivalent to six months of unemployment that they already receive for sexist violence.
