Tenerife businessmen advocate favoring housing available for the island’s workers

He Forum for the Progress of Tenerifean association recently created by a group of businessmen to promote the growth potential that the island has in the entire archipelago, has held a meeting in which it has addressed, among other issues, the difficulties that many workers encounter when it comes to finding housing near their jobs.
Faced with this situation, the Forum has identified among the main challenges of accelerating the implementation unfinished housing service, facilitate the urban management of scheduled land, analyze the regulations for holiday housing, in addition to analyzing issues such as late payment or illegal occupation and construction of affordable rental homes. To this end, the Forum has organized a working group that will focus on addressing the situation with experts who will facilitate effective conclusions.
The aforementioned meeting was attended by the vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Dominguez, who spoke about the new vacation housing law and how it can improve the current situation, *in addition to advancing other measures that have to do with making public land available to the business sector for the construction of households that help alleviate this problem.
Another of the priority issues for the Forum and that Manuel Domínguez also mentioned has to do with the difficulties that companies have in hiring qualified personnel in certain branches. To this end, other objectives have been set aimed at adapting the training offer to that of annual employment, greater responsibility of the productive sector in dual training, increased productivity as a way to increase the minimum wage/income ratio, development of greater sectoral economic diversification, improvement of geographic labor mobility as well as the role that Universities play in this entire process.
For this and all matters addressed by the association analysis and debate will be promoted in collaboration with other economic and social actors and also with the administration on issues* that are considered essential to reduce the economic and social imbalances that hinder our development.
Also during the meeting The members of the Association’s Board of Directors were appointed, which will be chaired by Jesús Francisco Gómez. Along with the president, the Board will be made up of Carmen Garcia (vice president responsible for Talent and living conditions), Antonio Armas (vice president for Infrastructure), Enrique Alfonso (vice president for Innovation) and Arturo Escuder (Treasurer).
