The hearing on the license renewal application of K

Officials of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) say that the hearing on the license renewal application of K Elekrak has been completed, the decision will be issued later.

During the hearing, Nepra officials said that suggestions were sought from stakeholders on the renewal of K Electric’s license, most of the suggestions came against the renewal of K Electric’s distribution license.

A hearing for renewal of distribution license of K Electric was held under the chairmanship of Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar.

Nepra officials said that K Electric’s 20-year license has expired, K Electric was given an interim distribution license of 6 months, and the interim license will also expire in January.

Officials said that while suggestions were sought from stakeholders on the renewal of K Electric’s license, most of the suggestions came against the renewal of K’s electric distribution license.

K Electric officials have claimed to have invested Rs 474 billion in the 20 years since privatization, with Rs 474 billion invested in power distribution, transmission and other sectors.

Aamir Ghaziani, Chief Financial Officer of K Electric, while giving a briefing, said that after privatization, Electric has shown improvement in all areas, increased generation efficiency from 25 to 45, load shedding free feeders increased from 6.6 to more than 70 percent.

Amir Ghaziani said that we have improved our system a lot since privatisation, after privatization we have increased the power generation by 1957 MW, K Electric has reduced its distribution and transmission losses by 15.3%.

K Electric does worst load shedding: Imran Shahid

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi representative Imran Shahid has said that the authority should not support K Electric, K Electric does the worst load shedding, K Electric has no gas contract with Sui Southern.

He said that K Electric does not have any agreement to get electricity from the Federation, Nepra should stop awarding K Electric any more, K Electric is a burden on the people, this hearing should have been held in Karachi.

Representative Karachi Chamber of Commerce Tanveer Bari said that K Electric should withdraw the case from the courts against Nepra decisions of public interest, and cheap electricity should be provided to the people of Karachi.

Nepra has completed the hearing on the application for renewal of the electricity license of K. Nepra will issue a decision on the application later.
