The main union organizations of the Auchan distributor called on employees to mobilize on Friday to defend their remuneration, in a complicated economic context for the galaxy brand Mulliezwhich performed poorly in 2023.
CFTC, CFDT, CGT and FO called the distributor employees northerners to demonstrate on Friday. “It is our mobilization which will define our capacity to continue industrial action”, according to the terms of a joint press release published by the CFDT on social networks. In a separate press release, the CGT for its part called for a strike this Friday.
The management of the brand, which has 160,000 employees worldwide – including 59,000 in France – did not wish to comment on the mobilization.
“We want to continue to put pressure on the company because we are not satisfied with the NAO” (the obligatory annual negotiations, editor’s note), Bruno Delaye, central union delegate for the CFTC, the leading organization, explained to AFP on Wednesday. within the distributor.
Loss of purchasing power
This mobilization a few days before the “first big weekend of the year”, that of Easter, will in his eyes be a way of “seeing if the employees are following us, because it cannot just be an action emanating from ‘elected officials; we’re talking about issues that concern employees.”
“In recent years, we have lost a lot of purchasing power, shareholding, the progress bonus and participation no longer produce”, indicate the four trade union organizations, for which the employees are “not responsible for the poor results of the company”.
Auchan’s holding company, Elo, had in fact published poor financial results for 2023 at the end of February, in this case a net loss of 379 million euros for income from ordinary activities (the equivalent of its turnover) just under 33 billion euros.
The brand has indicated that it hopes to bounce back, notably through purchase of 70 supermarkets, 26 hypermarkets and two drives in Casinolocated in “regions with economic and demographic growth”, notably the Mediterranean rim, the Rhône-Alpes region and Île-de-France.
Elo, however, saw the rating agency S&P Global Ratings lower the rating of its debt, moving it to speculative category, believing that the company was facing “structural challenges in the French market”. The agency considered that the takeover of Casino points of sale entailed “significant risks”.
