In financial difficulty, Duralex requests “the opening of legal recovery proceedings”

She is looking for the “best solution” for her future. The glass company New Duralex International (NDI), operator of the consumer brand of Duralex glassware“has requested the opening of a judicial recovery procedure for its benefit with the Orléans commercial court,” Duralex announced on Tuesday.

“The objective is to look for a buyer for NDI, thus aiming to find the best solution for the company” which employs 230 people in its historic factory in Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin (Loiret). “An administrator and a legal representative should be appointed by the court to assist the company during the observation period which should open,” the company also specifies in a press release.

“Financial burden”

The problems have continued for Duralex in recent years. After being forced to interrupt her activity for several months at the time of the energy crisis, the company was once again put in difficulty by a court decision in March. The administrative court of Orléans ordered her to pay a debt contracted in 2020 by the former operator, before its takeover in 2021, by the parent company of Pyrex.

At current prices, the amount of this debt could reach 1.3 million euros, which constitutes “a significant financial burden” likely to “seriously compromise the financial health of New Duralex International and its ability to maintain its activities in a sustainable manner », indicated the management, which had decided to appeal.
