Binter achieves a new record of daily passengers on its 35th birthday

Since its creation in 1989 until today, the airline has transported more than 83 million passengers and exceeded 1,648,000 flights operated.

In 2023, the airline also broke its annual passenger record by recording 4,938,938 travelers on 82,877 operated flightsconnecting all the Canary Islands with each other and with 33 foreign destinations. These figures contrast with those of his first full year, 1990, when he added 564,278 travelers and 15,538 flights.

The general coordinator of Binter, Santiago Guerra, highlighted the great moment the company is going through. «In these 35 years we have managed to go from being a regional airline, created to operate flights between the islands in the Canary Islands, to providing the Archipelago with a solvent, solid and leading company, which connects all the Canarian airports with a high quality service the Canary Islands with more than thirty national and international destinations and which this year has been introduced as an operator in the corridor Canary Islands-Madridto which we bring the ‘canary way’ of flying with a value proposition totally different from the low cost service that has predominated on these routes,” he noted.

100% Canarian company since 1989

The airline was acquired in 1989 by a group of Canarian businessmen with the aim of provide an air transport service in the Archipelago that has been and is crucial for its socioeconomic development. Thanks to its commitment to the Canary Islands, it has generated a system of 17 specialized companies in the different branches of the airline sector that contribute to diversification and the creation of specialized jobs. Today, more than 2,500 people who make up a highly qualified workforce.

Currently, Binter operates in all the Canary Islands with an airport and in 32 foreign destinations, 15 of them in Spain and 17 international. The jump abroad began in 2005, when the airline began to link the Archipelago with Madeira, Marrakech and El Aaiún, and in 2018 it began its flights with points in the rest of the national territory.

On its 35th anniversary, the airline has taken on a great challenge: enter as an operator in the Canary Islands – Madrid corridor, with the aim of contributing to this route its quality proposal, ‘the Canarian way of flying’, with a high-quality differential service highly valued by customers. In this way, it has been awarded seven times by the Association of European Regional Airlines (ERA). In 2023 it has been recognized by the OCU as the best Spanish airline based on travelers’ opinions regarding service, prices and quality. In addition, it has been distinguished as the Best Airline in Spain in the Travelers’ Choice Awards 2020 by TripAdvisor, the largest travel website in the world.
