Casino demands 30-year-old overpayments from nearly 900 employees, before backpedaling

Almost immediate backpedaling. The Casino group had sent letters to nearly 900 employees to request salary advances paid almost 30 years ago, our colleagues at France Blue. The announcement aroused incomprehension among employees, who ultimately won their case.

The Casino group, recently bought by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, wanted to recover these sums before the definitive sale of its stores. These salary advances, which ranged from a few hundred to several thousand euros, dated from the 1990s, when several companies were bought out. Management finally indicated this Thursday afternoon “to give up the recovery of overpayments”.

Employee anger

Hundreds of employees had previously received a letter notifying them of this regularization. At first, the group accepted its decision without batting an eyelid. “The document formalizing the salary advance provided for its due date at the time of the employee’s departure. A regularization which is done on the last pay slip,” he told France Bleu.
