Ouigo: SNCF announces a “slow” train between Paris and Rennes, tickets for less than 50 euros

Connect Paris to Rennes without TGV? It is now possible. The SNCF announced on Monday the launch, from April 5, of a Ouigo Train Classique (or “Ouigo lents”) line between the two cities. Tickets will go on sale from March 21, with a price ranging from 10 euros to 49 euros, according to the principle of yield management.
A daily round trip will be made with a departure from Paris Austerlitz (and not Montparnasse, as is the case for the TGV) in the morning between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and one from Rennes between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. afternoon with stops in Versailles (Yvelines) or Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), Le Mans (Sarthe) and Laval (Mayenne).
Slower journeys than TGV
For the traveler, in order to benefit from “low prices”, one must tolerate a (much) longer trip. The journey time will be between 4:55 and 5:39 hours, compared to two hours by TGV. These trains, succeeding the 100% Eco Intercités service, also do not have the comfort of the TGV: These are old Corail trains which have undergone a small facelift.
Until then, Ouigo Train Classique connects the capital to Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Angers (Maine-et-Loire), Saumur (Maine-et-Loire), Saint-Pierre-des-Corps (Indre-et-Loire). Loire), Les Aubrais (Loiret), Melun (Seine-et-Marne), Dijon (Côte-d’Or), Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire), Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire) and Lyon (Rhone). An extension of the network to Bordeaux (Gironde) and Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is also planned. These trains could also connect in the future the French capital to its Belgian counterpart, Brussels.
