Progress was made on 24 May by the interport and logistics coordination council (CCIL) for the Mediterranean-Rhône-Saône axis responsible for monitoring the creation of a major river-sea port. As a reminder, it starts from the ports of the Mediterranean coast – Marseille-Fos, Sète and Toulon – and extends to Lyon, as far as Burgundy.
Among these advances, the preparation of a major land mobilization project inland. This is to accommodate industrial and logistics facilities.
Acted also, the deployment of the same software on the whole axis, to give rise to customs facilities for the bulk and container sectors, as for intra-basin traffic. Digitization should also make it possible to strengthen the competitiveness of companies while making the transit of goods more reliable and fluid.
For its part, the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR) has announced the integration of requirements for more regular and frequent barge services for sub-concession tenders for the main ports, including the Lyon container terminal. Also announced that it would finance, by the end of 2023, the repatriation of boat holds in the basin, in return for traffic commitments.
The coordination council also raised the need to boost traffic in the river container sector and called on the participants to a “shock of offers” to achieve this.
