Pesticides: France cannot “invent” its indicators “away from Europe”, says Fesneau
The Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau defended on Sunday the adoption of the European indicator of the use of pesticidescontested by environmental NGOs, in place of the French tool, believing that France cannot “invent” its own indicators “away from Europe”.
During the agricultural crisis, the government “paused” the French Ecophyto plan to reduce phytosanitary products, the main indicator of which, Nodu, is accused by farmers of not reflecting the efforts already made.
Camouflage “15 years of failures”
NGOs and the Peasant Confederation, the third largest union force in the sector, see in the relegation of Nodu a desire by the government to “change the thermometer” to camouflage “15 years of failures”.
In the future “if Europe says: ‘it’s 20%, 30%, 50%'” reduction objective “and we don’t have the same indicator, what does that look like? », quipped Marc Fesneau on Sunday, stressing that “the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic will make their decisions next week”, between now and the opening of the Agricultural Show on February 24.
