The Canary Islands expect to reach 60% rural occupancy by the December long weekend

Reservations for rural accommodation in Spain for the December long weekend are already at an average of 55 percent with peaks of up to 78 percent in the province of Huelva and in the case of the Canary Islands it reaches 60 percent, according to data from Rural Getaway, which has highlighted that these figures are higher than those of the same period in 2022.

More than half of the Spanish provinces register a rural occupancy of more than 50 percent for the December long weekend. With Huelva in the lead, the next provinces with the highest data are Badajoz (71%)Las Palmas (71%), Segovia (69%), Murcia (67%), Huesca (67%), Navarra (66%), Cádiz (64%), Palencia (64%) and Córdoba (64%).

The communications manager for EscapadaRural.com, Judith Monmany, explained that at the destination level there are two trends: «those who opt for warmer destinations on these dates such as Las Palmas, Murcia or the provinces of Andalusia; and others who opt for very mountain destinations where they surely hope to see and enjoy the first snowfalls of the season.”

At the level of autonomous communities, Murcia is the leader with a figure of 67% and nine other autonomous communities register occupancy rates higher than 50%: Navarra (66%), Andalusia (62%), Aragón (61%), Canary Islands (60%), Madrid (59%), Castilla y León (57%), Extremadura (57%), Catalonia (56%) and Castilla La-Mancha (55%).
