the plates reinstalled on both sides of the Saône

Progress noted this Friday, June 2 the restoration of the name plates on both sides of the Abbé-Paul-Couturier footbridge which spans the Saône at the level of the Saint-Georges church.

One was fixed to a pillar of the Quai Fulchiron (Lyon 5^e); the other, on a pillar of the quai Tilsitt (Lyon 2^e). A new version larger in size than the previous one, with larger and more legible characters. ⁽¹⁾

Inaugurated in 2003

Alerted last March by our editorial staff, the Métropole had promised to put this signage back in place as soon as possible disappeared more than 5 years ago following repeated damage (tags, scratches, burns). Its inauguration took place in 2003 in the presence in particular of Archbishop Philippe Barbarin and the socialist mayor Gérard Collomb for the 50th anniversary of the death of Paul Couturier, on March 24, 1953 at his home at 5, rue du Plat (Lyon 2).^e).

This teaching priest at the Carthusians was one of the world pioneers of dialogue between the Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox Churches. Just 100 years ago, he had the intuition to bet on shared singing experiences at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Lyon 1^er) to begin the exchange with the hundreds of Russian Orthodox refugees welcomed in the Rhone city after the Soviet Revolution. One of the many movements that later contributed to reforming part of Catholic doctrine (Vatican Council II in the 1960s).
