And since October 2022, La Source has also created a cannery “because there are local market gardeners and a vegetable factory run by Brotonne Environnement, another integration project nearby, and we did not have the follow-up”, says the director. . It is in the former municipal canteen, lent by the city of Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon that Catherine Curat, activity supervisor and her versatile agents have settled: “It’s the equivalent of five full-time, because here the employees have chosen times. They have all completed a five-day cannery production officer training. Initially, the whole team took part in developing the recipes: 250 jars of four spreads with different flavors have already been produced and sold on the town’s Christmas market,” explains Charline Dumontier.

Next activity, a mobile grocery store

If all the fruits and vegetables arrive for the moment from local organic market gardeners, the cannery had to equip itself, mainly for sterilization, with an autoclave worth 20,000 euros. La Source was able to benefit from half of the Fonds Caisse d’Épargne Normandie for this investment: “This was mandatory in order to sell and have a DLC (use-by date). Our products are analyzed and validated by the CTCPA (technical center for the preservation of food products) and go through the departmental laboratory. Certified, the jars stamped Caux’Serv’Rit are put on the stalls” adds Charline Dumontier.

In the meantime, the team at the cannery is continuing its attempts to bring out cooked vegetables in March and soups for the fall “and that with joy and good humour. None had experience. Today, the days are spread out from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break for lunch. We manage to produce a full production of 150 cans a day. Soon, we will also launch into fruit”, informs Catherine Curat. The range will then be marketed on the Internet, in vending machines in the region or in the next activity, a mobile grocery store.
