why the construction site on the quays of Saône is at a standstill

We no longer see the end.

This Sunday, while we rejoiced in the reopening of the lower portion of the Tilsitt quay , along the Saône, at the promenade, it was said that all that remained was to wait for the end of the Terrasses de la Presqu’île construction site, formerly occupied by the Saint-Antoine car park, to find a linear edge complete river route to Barbe Island. This space, installed on 1,000 m² in the axis of the Saint-Nizier church and the Place d’Albon, designed by the architects of the Wilmotte & Associés agency, with a belvedere and river garden, was to be made available to the public this summer.

Ultimately it won’t be the case. Once again the work, the delivery of which has been repeatedly postponed, is interrupted.

The Métropole de Lyon has just announced that the construction site is at a standstill “due to a disorder noted north of the low quay” , in this case a collapse of the bank wall plunging into the Saône. Emergency precautionary measures are being implemented and will continue until the end of April. They consist of filling in the scours and reinforcing the wall by installing riprap at the base of the wall.

At the same time, additional geotechnical studies were launched in order to determine the final solution for reinforcing the wall remaining to be carried out, a necessary step before any resumption of development work on the lower quay. These studies will make it possible to establish a new schedule to finalize the work. There is no impact on the rest of the Saône quays, nor on the upper part.
